While I prefer fewer adapters these don't really cause any issues.3.5mm Analog Output - This is for if you want to use your Hel as an amplifier for an analog source, like a mobile phone or a DAP.3.5mm Preamp Output - “Plug this into your powered monitors (or a Power amp) using a ⅛” TRS to Dual RCA cables (for most products-others may need a different cable, consult the manufacturer. I agree with your conclusions, especially in terms of sound impressions. This wasn't an issue for me in the past or on any other PC or device that I tested them on. There's also a huge lack of video reviews on the product, even though its been out for quite a bit. But on the Hel, I just don't hear it to the same extent. Static at the beginning though means no matter the unit’s cost, the problems seems to lie with (as you’ve surmised) the mobo itself and how it handles voltage regulation output to internal soundcard. If I could only include 1 gaming feature into every gaming sound card or DAC/Amp this would be it.I'd like to see a switch to swap between speakers and headphones without having to unplug your headphones. For everything else, including the mh751, X2HR, 58x, hd 599, pc37x, the fulla 3 is more than enough.Couldn’t you add a preamp before the DAC or even an in-line filter? First off, I would like to give a huge thanks to Schiit for sending me the Hel to review! But at $100 I can't complain. The Hel is very much a grown-up Fulla 3, slightly better sound but its a Fulla 3 with more power and it's more usable.Sound-wise I would say it does slightly lean more towards the old Magni 3 rather than the 2 new Magni’s. A cheap one just to handle these voltage irregularities. The Hel comes with an included power brick. The Hel has 4 nice rubber feet but the Fulla 3 only has 3 so at the back where there is only 1 foot and it does wobble a bit, although not much in everyday use.
I personally use an SMSL DAC and Drop’s AAA THX 789 amp. I will only be listing a few for comparison.Output Stage: TI OPA1688 (4 amp stages per channel)3’ Micro USB Cables (wish it also included a headset splitter)¼ inch adapter. I've also decided on merging the Fulla 3 and Hel into one "Schiit Gaming DAC/Amps" review, mainly because they're both fresh products with similar uses, at different price levels. I’ve never used Schiit products so don’t know personally but Ive never heard of this problem. But the red is not in your face and actually looks nice, which is good because this colour scheme was then used in their Magni Heresy.
(I wish it was a nicer one, it's a little bulky)Headset Splitter (Not listed on the product documentation)The Fulla 3 and Hel follow in the footsteps of all the other Schiit products by being enclosed within a 2 part metal chassis. Nice review.I also have an Asus z170-a motherboard, and ran into the same crackling and popping issues with the fulla 3 and Hel. It really is too bad about chat mix and monitoring not being there but after getting my gsx 1000 I found that I didn't value these as much as I thought I would. But sadly neither have an optical input, which is a missed opportunity. This was on the front of the unit for the Fulla 2, but has replaced the Fixed DAC output sadly. Schiit Audio Hel High Power DAC/AMP Review March 10, 2020 Chris Accessory, Audio and Visual, Reviews 0. Compare it to the Hel, which is also small, and it’s easy to see what a small footprint it has. I would honestly be happy with either of these as a dedicated AMP/DAC combo for their price even without the mic jack. But what I do want to say is that both of these have fantastic ADCs. You the consumer shouldn't worry about this.I just wanted to quickly talk about these as portable AMP/DACs.
That’s why it’s black and red. I will go into that more later. The Fulla 3 is an update on their popular little combo unit the Fulla 2. So I don't really expect you to use either of these as a portable AMP/DAC combo in the sense of using them on the go while you're moving around. Overall this will help you power harder to drive headphones. With the Fulla 3 at just after 2 O-clock, I start to hear some issues come into play but the Hel can go much higher.Overall both sound very good for their price and for what they are.
I agree with the gamer red criticism. They’re marketed as Gaming DAC/Amps. Or does that happen at a software level?Yeah, I agree, the Hel is expensive enough that it should have the brushed aluminum chassis.whats wrong with micro usb? I know it's a MLG 1337 GaMiNg product, but is there a law that gaming devices have to look garish? But at the same time, I got a tiny bit of roll-off on each end (but that may have been for a different reason). It is a tad warm. It's an audio first approach which is not only refreshing but my personally preferred take on this type of “Gaming” Product. The upside to this is there is no bloatware, no software, there just plug and play. It's been too long since I wrote a Schiit review. But these are not gaming products in the way I'm used to that meaning. The DAC has a very solid noise floor and even with sensitive IEMs, I had no issue. Very compressed.Overall the G6 is what I recommend for PS4. If I had a do-over I would have grabbed a fulla and called it a day.An actually in depth and properly detailed review, you don't see a lot of thoseNice review. I also have to add these toggles feel fantastic.Sound-wise it's better than I expected, but that could be because when I hear gaming DAC/Amp I don't expect much. The Hel sounds better than I remember the Magni 3 sounding, amp wise. I know it's a MLG 1337 GaMiNg product, but is there a law that gaming devices have to look garish? But the other side is with the 3.5mm you only need 1 adapter to make a headset work on here, whereas with the ¼” on the Hel you need 2 adapters. The Hel needs a power source.
At this price point targeting it at gamers, it makes sense. The Fulla 3 and Hel for PC.If next Gen consoles do have proper USB audio support. I'd also like to add that the dimensions of the Hel are nearly the same as Schiit's small case design that is used in the Magni, Modi, Loki, SYS, Vali, and more, but turned sideways and slightly shorter. They both offer large decently smooth volume knobs on top.
