walkout movie review

I learned so much history that I had never known before. We see the youth spearing wild creatures, and finding water in the dry pool with the use of a hollow reed. The best film I ever saw. My mother grew up in the time of the Chicano movements. Back in 1968 all the kids new why they were walking out and were educating themselves. Here is my original review in its entirety: The movie Walkout revolves around the 1968 Walkout by Chicano students in Los Angeles protesting unequal treatment in the schools. Often people assume that only people hundreds of years ago made the sacrifices and changes, this was not that long ago and shows that people are able to accomplish anything together.

I am amazed and outraged that I had never heard of this "walk out" until just last night (3/22/06).

The 14-year-old girl (Jenny Agutter) pulls her 6-year-old brother (Luc Roeg) behind a ridge, and when they look again their father has shot himself and the car is on fire.Civilization, we gather, has failed him. In my current elderly comfort, I occasionally forget that government and officials of all stripes can easily fall into the role of oppressor. When they cried, I cried. 14 out of 16 found this helpful

This film put me back to the life and time my mother was forced to live. Walkout not only came in perfect shape, with the plastic still over the cover, but is an excellent movie describing the conditions of certain low-classed students in a rundown part of the suburbs who were willing to stand up for their rights and freely protest the poor treatment given to them in their schools, which offered little hopes for their education, and future in general. It's getting the message that we will not stand for unequal treatment no matter who we are. ( I noticed it is "ON DEMAND" on HBO)Edward James Olmos has my uttermost admiration and respect for taking the time, research, energy and dedication to make this movie. My best friend went to Roosevelt HS and my boyfriend (at the time) went to Garfield HS.

I think that even today there are Hispanics that are ashamed of their culture and raise their kids not knowing how to speak Spanish when their last name is Martinez. Cinematography was good, but I thought the production design infused way too much color. The movie is not the heartwarming story of how the girl and her brother are lost in the outback and survive because of the knowledge of the resourceful aborigine. Alexa Vega thank you for staring in such a good film. It doesn't matter who played what in this movie. When they clapped,I clapped. I have originally written a review of this back when the movie first aired (acutally before that because I saw a pre-screening at ASU) but removed my review because of a group of vociferous, petty people that were bashing the movie and were being actually hostile to me via personal messages. I've seen "After SChool" specials with more concern for story telling than this movie. This movie is right.

The Kissing Booth 2 Best friends (Joey King and Joel Courtney) and their privileged social circle navigate the difficult world of their posh prep school life in Los Angeles, and they find that choosing relationships and selecting elite colleges can be equally challenging. What's important is the message for equal treatment of all race.

Unity and organization with a PLAN to improve their schools in a non violent way may sound theoretical. They stood up for their rights in a positive, honest, peaceful way, and for legitimate reasons. 3 out of 6 found this helpful It was executive produced by Rodrigo Garcia, and it was released on October 6, 2017 by IFC Films. Whether it is making myself go to the gym to loose those extra pounds. A new film likely to be shown on HBO is circulating in California universities. Should have emphasized the brown a bit more, if you know what I mean.

One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The students were subjected to corporeal punishment for speaking Spanish in class, they were forced to urinate outside during lunch hour because the schools would lock the bathroom doors, and they would be made to do janitorial work as punishment (but the white students were not.)

The cast is quite good and believable. This delay was important because it enabled them to organize & "inspire" by getting the media to be there. I liked the movie that I just saw. I think a Walkout is the best way. Thanks again. The Chicano of East L.A. in the late sixties woke up from their sad lethargy. I really liked this movie and encourage Latino families to sit down and watch it with their kids. Karen in Santa Ana CA. To many people feel what can I do..its best not to make waves...just shut up and do your job. And most of all, the humility of not being treated as an equal. I am able to be who I am today, because of the activists of yesterday. They wander the outback for a number of days (the film is always vague about time), and stumble upon an oasis with a pool of muddy water. Roeg was a cinematographer before he became a director (he co-directed the Aboriginal culture has a less linear sense of time than that of a clock-bound society, and the time line of the movie suggests that. please make more movies that show our history.Thank you for the history I am able to express my opinion on "Walkout", because of the same activists and people who stood by them. (The film gives us no information about the aborigine's background--not even whether he has ever had any contact with modern civilization.) This was not EJO's best, and may rank as one of his worsts. Some racism still exists today. They're on a picnic, the children think, until their father starts shooting at them. It was perfect for the time frame of which we are learning - The civil rights movement. That the aborigine learn from them about a world of high-rises and radios?
