A very easy to read book - I rattled through from front to back in two weeks and think I've managed to retain much of the information from the one pass. In the end, I learned to love this book. However, the code is usually written either under the head tag or the body tag. I then spent time researching that specific thing only to find that they will be discussing it later on. I bought this as a "getting to grips with Javascript" for work (hence being able to get through it without skipping anything in two weeks) and I've felt comfortable to at least prototype in Javascript for active development tasks. Clear, a bit verbose but I guess it was intentional - cuz it does help me retain the information better. For example, they will state something which has not been discussed in a manner of which you believe that it has already been discussed and it can throw you off. You can't learn without pumping some neurons.
The exercises and solutions are excellent, really hammering in new knowledge and skills and giving the reader the chance for immediate feedback.Another great HoF series book. Images are far more memorable than words alone, and make learning much more effective.

The initial chapters that have you build a battleship single page application raised my expectations really high. Head First HTML and CSS: A Learner's Guide to Creating Standards-Based Web Pages The page layout is dynamic: no two pages are the same, and each one has a mix of text and images. Clearly there's a lot to learn about using JavaScript after I've finished reading this book, but I do feel like I now have a foundation to build upon. Comments: A very good introduction to JavaScript. Once I started Chapter 5 (Higher Order Functions), I just about gave up and really questioned my decision to get into the field of CS/programming.
