Lost Highway is a bizarre, psychical film that has mystified most. If you really want to know what lost highway is about, just know that david lynch is crazy & forget all about the movie. To further avoid the truth of his actions, he creates a new persona, a biker mechanic who falls in love with the jazz singer's wife. It basically shows an ego breakdown on film, I can't think of another film that captures that besides maybe Bergman's Persona.

Lets watch a disney movie or something instead.tl;dr I would never try to explain this movie to a 5 year old.If by crazy you mean awesome, then yes, he is. Lynch is a master at creating that kind of weird unconscious anxiety, where your own imagination starts processing and associating in ways that continue behind what you're actually seeing. Then the ideas of distrust, some external threat, implied in such an unnerving way that again the imagination starts to process those ideas in the background.

The short film works so well because he has back essentially turned to something he just realized could hurt him. All that happened already before Fire Walk Wit… In Lost Highway, Fred (Bill Paulman) suspects his wife, Renee (Patricia Arquette), is acting unfaithfully. He calls the power company, and they claim there's no irregular activity. The idea that this character could somehow both have been invited into Pullman's house without him remembering while also exhibiting impossible feats like appearing in two places at once brings up every nightmarish fear about invasion of privacy that one could imagine, especially considering the video tapes Pullman had been receiving.
Not silence, not really noise, just kind of a low, diesel-train hum in the background, which is....very unsettling.This isn't a very good version of this scene, but you can 'hear' the 'silence' very well. The title came from Night People by Barry Gifford (the author of Wild At Heart story), a book that pushed Lynch to ask for his collaboration in writing the movie. guess lynch isn't for everyone - but in a film class, i'm pretty shockedOP has deleted his/her account, but just wanted to put here that it only adds to the creepiness, in a film about a man murdering his wife, that Robert Blake (who played the Mystery Man) probably did murder his wife about 5 years after Lost Highway came out.Like OJ Simpson, it seemed obvious he was guilty but he was acquitted at his murder trial.
