Current production of meat in selected countries of the world and in the EU

The world production of beef, pork and poultry has increased by 260% over the last fifty years and now exceeds 320 million tons per year (in the carcass weight equivalent). The most dynamic was poultry, which is now the most mass-produced meat category with more than 118 million tons in 2017. The world’s largest poultry producers are the USA, China, EU-28, and Brazil. Pork was produced in the volume of almost 118 million tons in 2017. The largest producers were China, the EU-28 and USA. The smallest share of the main types of meat is currently beef (around 70 million tons produced in 2017), although in 1970 beef was the most produced meat in the world. The largest beef producers are the USA, Brazil, EU-28, and China.
